ISORA means “to see the roots from above” in the Guanche language. This metaphor, which names the band, parallels the idea of sound exploration and experimentation without losing sight of one’s “roots.” These roots are understood through the personal references of each member—both in literature and music—alongside a perspective that looks to tradition, poetry, and popular music from the Iberian Peninsula.
Ainhoa Pérez Echepare and Álvaro Rey de Viñas met at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and decided to collaborate, drawn together by their shared musical tastes influenced by classical music, jazz, Spanish traditional music, and electronic sounds. This common musical background led them to form this unconventional duo, combining voice, oboe, English horn, and trumpet with electronics and synthesizers. Lorca’s poetry, flamenco, folklore, improvisation, sampled elements, and their own compositions serve as guides in their sound exploration. The fusion of these elements with their songs creates a simple sonic journey, starting with the introduction of an idea, followed by its development and deconstruction.
Their sound exploration unfolds through improvisation within the framework of their songs: the musicalization of Lorca’s poems, their own compositions, and the revival of traditional songs, blended with electronic sound. Álvaro and Ainhoa aim to create a unique style and sound where their musical personalities and aesthetics merge, while still maintaining their individual identities.
