But starting small
We want to build a place where performers will get decent pay, qualified tech staff hired, front of house jobs provided to locals, rehearsal and community space offered for affordable fees and local talent can be nurtured. But in the meantime we will host pop-up events in the area.
The Name
Origins
In the early 2000s, one of our early supporters and former neighbor (sound engineer and musician, Remko Visser) moved to Oost. His friends questioned the move to such an uncool neighborhood so a group of musicians in the area made Oost Rules! t-shirts in defense.
Community
For, and by, the community
We want to reflect the wide diversity of the neighborhood and will partner with locals first and experts second. Programming will focus on local artists and build off of the communities that reside in Oost, while expanding cultural offerings in general.
Impact
Not just for musicians and music lovers
While our core mission is to nurture local live musicians and provide them with opportunities to perform, Oost Rules! will program storytelling nights, visual art, provide space to other community groups, work with local promoters and much more! Our expansion plans to offer rehearsal space and a repair shop will bring additional benefits as well.
